Microsoft has unveiled a new (NB) mouse !

Microsoft has unveiled a new rechargeable Notebook (NB) mouse with 1 GB of flash memory built right into the transceiver.
Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 is designed to prevent shortage of USB port. This three-in-one tool allows users simultaneously to work wirelessly, save important files with 1 GB of storage, and recharge the mouse without deficiency in performance - all through 1 USB port.

The magnetic charging system allows users to continue working while the mouse recharges. The charging cord magnetically connects at one end to the underside of the mouse, and the other to the tip of the transceiver.

The included AAA rechargeable battery offers more than 3 weeks of battery power on a full charge.

The wireless technology allows users to choose how they want to connect with 2.4 GHz wireless or Bluetooth. The 2.4 GHz transceiver is capable of connecting to all NBs.

Meanwhile, users can also connect directly with the help of a switch on the bottom of the mouse, thus eliminating the need of the transceiver.

Besides, the mouse creates a seamless connection between hardware and Windows Vista with access to the Windows Flip 3D feature. With the press of a button, users can flip through open windows in a stack and quickly switch between applications.

With the black high-gloss surface and metal finish, the mouse features proprietary HD Laser Technology, a Tilt Wheel, and 2 side buttons (magnifier and back).

The Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 will be widely available in October 2007 for an estimated retail price of USD 99.95 (Rs 4,040). However, those wanting to confirm one for them can pre-order at Amazon.com.

Sony Develops "Bio Battery"

Sony has developed a bio battery1 that generates electricity from carbohydrates (sugar) utilizing enzymes as its catalyst, through the application of power generation principles found in living organisms.

Test cells of this bio battery have achieved power output of 50 mW, currently the world's highest level2 for passive-type3 bio batteries. The output of these test cells is sufficient to power music play back on a memory-type Walkman.

In order to realize the world's highest power output, Sony developed a system of breaking down sugar to generate electricity that involves efficiently immobilizing enzymes and the mediator (electronic conduction materials) while retaining the activity of the enzymes at the anode. Sony also developed a new cathode structure which efficiently supplies oxygen to the electrode while ensuring that the appropriate water content is maintained. Optimizing the electrolyte for these two technologies has enabled these power output levels to be reached.

Sugar is a naturally occurring energy source produced by plants through photosynthesis. It is therefore regenerative, and can be found in most areas of the earth, underlining the potential for sugar-based bio batteries as an ecologically-friendly energy device of the future.

Sony will continue its development of immobilization systems, electrode composition and other technologies in order to further enhance power output and durability, with the aim of realizing practical applications for these bio batteries in the future.

The research results presented here have been accepted as an academic paper at the 234th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in Boston, MA USA, and were announced at 11 am local time on August 22, 2007.

The bio battery mechanism

The newly developed bio battery incorporates an anode consisting of sugar-digesting enzymes and mediator, and a cathode comprising oxygen-reducing enzymes and mediator, either side of a cellophane separator. The anode extracts electrons and hydrogen ions from the sugar(glucose) through enzymatic oxidation as follows:

Glucose -> Gluconolactone + 2 H+ + 2 e-

The hydrogen ion migrates to the cathode through the separator. Once at the cathode, the hydrogen ions and electrons absorb oxygen from the air to produce water:
(1/2) O2 + 2 H+ + 2 e- -> H2O

Through this process of electrochemical reaction, the electrons pass through the outer circuit to generate electricity.

Orkut now with multi-language support

The popularity of orkut has surged ahead with each passing day. And with the social networking site becoming such a rage, it was but obvious, that orkut would be launching a regional version soon. And that has become a reality now. Orkut has now support for many Indian regional languages - Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi.
Orkut is one universal community where people from many part of the world communicate with each other, often transcending physical and cultural barriers.

Orkut helps you coummunicate with your old friends, relatives and you can make new friends out there too. This universal community is growing day by day and now the latest update is that orkut is available in 5 different languages : Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and telugu also. This surely comes as a great news for the people who would like to communicate in their native languages, instead of typing the same in english alphabets. India is a stronghold for the networking site with a lot of memberships increasing by each passing minute.

So keeping all this in mind Google finally launched this new feature especially for the Indians. Since in India there are more than 400 different languages spoken, so it was not easy to put all the languages to test right in the beginning. To start with google has choosen 5 languages. These languages cover 80% of the India, so to make a start these were the best suited ones. And with the growing demand, many other regional languages can be expected to come in, like Punjabi and even Urdu.

And Google has ensured that it's members don't face too much of a problem while viewing the orkut site in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil or Telugu, which is very easy. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Goto settings button
2. Goto general tab and choose your preferred langauge from the drop down menu
3. Finally save the changes

And start enjoying this amazing feature by Google, which will make orkutting all the more fun. Have a nice time!
